Adopt at
Tail Town
Tail Town Cats is home to 30-40 friendly, free-roaming cats who live with us 24/7 until they are adopted. They are all here to find their furever homes!
We also offer extra adoption events in our lobby on the weekends to help show off more kitties who don’t live with us, but are under the same rescue partnership.
Whether you are just getting started on your adoption journey or have been looking for your new best friend for a while, we have the resources you’ve been looking for.
We are here for your questions!
-
Once you meet the cat(s) of your dreams, you submit an Adoption Questionnaire with our rescue partner, Kitten Rescue.
A volunteer will reach out to schedule a virtual home visit, go over supplies, and help you get ready for your new addition! The whole process takes about a week to ensure you have enough time to prep and shop. Feel free to submit a questionnaire ahead of time to get your paw in the door!

Because adopting a cat is a big commitment, we like to make sure you are thoroughly prepared and do not offer same-day adoptions. Our adoption process is designed to make sure you're ready for anything!
You can apply and get pre-approved, but we want to make sure you've got all your supplies and integration plan ready to go. Certain cats may have different needs, so we make sure to tailor your home-check and supply lists to each cat.

Kitten Rescue's standard adoption fee is $150 for one cat and $250 for a pair. The fee is payable through their adoption process online and all goes back to Kitten Rescue to cover their initial medical costs.

While we occasionally have a few kitties who wouldn't mind or would prefer to be solo cats— we take a very specific demographic of cats because of our space and mission.
We take and house cats who LOVE to be around other cats and people, often they are young and playful. We do not have the space designed to feature solo-only cats, however, Kitten Rescue has many cats up for adoption who WANT to be the only cats. Please check their website, as most of our cats need a buddy or are bonded to friends. -
Surprisingly, despite what you may believe, two kittens are actually easier than one. We will spare you finding that out on your own, as we do not adopt out young cats on their own.
The reason for this is that young kittens are still growing and learning good behaviors from bad. With other cats, they learn pain thresholds and what hurts during playtime roughhousing. They burn off their crazy kitten energy on each other and save the fun cuddle time for us!
It doesn't matter how much playtime or attention you give, they physically NEED another cat. Single kittens aren’t able to burn that off and will turn to biting, scratching, swatting, attacking feet and hands, and generally act out for attention which becomes hardwired behavior when they are on their own. This variety of aggression is referred to as Single Kitten Syndrome and cannot be unlearned. Because of the high number of returns rescue organizations see with kittens with this behavior, we made it an actual policy some time ago.
If you’re really set on one cat, ask to meet the kitties that NEED to be singles and we would be happy to make some match-making suggestions.

Because of vaccination requirements and health and safety standards, we do not take cats under the age of 4 months. Even then, we limit how many kittens we house at once to keep everyone healthy.
Visit our weekend adoption events or partner rescue for younger age ranges.

We do not allow any outside animals other than those registered under Kitten Rescue.
Cats need slow integration to make new friends and bringing them to a strange and busy space, will not set the right tone for introductions.
Stop by and chat with one of our adoption coordinators to start building a plan for introductions and integrations of a new pet. -
When we say 'adoption-ready' it means that all our kitties have had their basic medical completed before arriving. All the Tail Town Cats are fixed, combo tested for FIV/Felv, microchipped, treated for fleas/worms, and are up to date on FVRCP vaccines. Some of our cats may be FIV+, but are deemed docile and safe to be with other cats.
All medical history and needs are discussed with potential adopters. If you have any concerns at all, we are happy to help!
